Brno and Ostrava staging Olympic Festivals Pyeongchang 2018

Building on its experience from 2014 and 2016 editions of Olympic Parks, the Czech Olympic Committee organised 2 Olympic Festivals in 2018. 17 days, 34 sports and more than 250 000 visitors; these numbers characterised the two successful events.

“The winter edition of the OFs in Brno and Ostrava was one of the most successful “Olympic” events which we have ever organised. Visitors have once again demonstrated that the Czech Republic is not a country whose people can come together to support and celebrate the successes of their sport heroes only as passive viewers of TV screen. On the contrary, they can, and already do, watch and cheer, while, being physically active and doing sport”, summarized the success of the OFs Ms Naďa Černá, project manager, Czech NOC.

Brno and Ostrava were transformed into playing fields – outdoors and indoors - where visitors could try more than 30 sports, both Olympic and non-Olympic, summer and winter. Ice-hockey, as one of the most popular sports in the Czech Republic, played a prime role in both locations, and so did biathlon, curling or bobsleigh. Competitions for visitors in a number of disciplines, including pump track, biathlon or ski-jump - were organised every day. During “Paralympic Days”, show competitions were held and people had the possibility to try out various Paralympic sports.

More than 150 Czech Olympians and other famous athletes, from both winter and summer sports, visited the Festivals and took part in the activities.
